Overview on teaching in China and in CTBU:

China is full of exciting teaching opportunities and has been regarded as one of the most popular destinations for overseas teachers, when there is a huge demand for qualified English teachers who enjoy the status of foreign expert (education). Since China carried out economic reform and opening up to the outside world in 1978 up to now foreign experts having worked in China have amounted to 740, 000 persons/times. These experts have made great contributions to the promotion of Chinese economic construction and social development as well as to the friendship and cooperation between the Chinese people and the people of other countries.

The State Administration of Foreign Expert Affairs (SAFEA) under the State Council of PRC is the national organ responsible for implementation of relevant laws and regulations. Government authorized universities recruit and provide foreign teachers tax-free salaries, free accommodation, air reimbursement and other benefits.
CTBU has been engaging the service of foreign experts since 1992. They are employed mainly as teachers of foreign languages and short-term experts. More than 80 foreign teachers/experts have been working at CTBU, involved in both teaching and joint research in such subjects as speaking, writing, environmental English, law English, E-commerce, regional economics, business administration and so on. Presently there are nearly 20 foreign teachers working in CTBU. Their work has been well received by the school authorities and students. We are sincerely grateful to all the experts who have made great contributions to the improvement of students’ English efficiency and upgrading of Education philosophy. The services provided have also been highly praised by foreign teachers.

Introduction to Chongqing:

Presently Chongqing is China’s biggest municipality in terms of area and population. Chongqing is a famous cultural city with a history of over 3000 years. Towards the end of the Old Stone Age approximately 20000-30000 years ago, human beings began to live where today’s Chongqing is. Chongqing is located at southwestern China and at the upper reaches of the Yangtze River, at 105°11’-110°11’ east longitude and 28°10’- 32°13’ north latitude. It is 470 kilometers from east to west and 450 kilometers from north to south. With lots of its buildings on hillsides and mountains surrounding the city, Chongqing has got renown as a “mountain city”. Moreover, Chongqing enjoys the subtropical climate with an average annual precipitation of 1000 millimeters. The land is evergreen all year round. With natural scenes mingled into humane landscape, Chognqing's tourist resources are comprehensive and widespread. The long and particular history, brilliant local culture, mighty mountain and rivers have brought about numerous well-known scenic spots, historic relics and magnificent landscape to Chognqing. There are in Chongqing 20 large tourist resorts with more than 1300 scenic spots. The enchanting night view of the city, the praised historical relics of the Three Kingdoms Period, the elegant Dazu Stone Carvings (one of the world cultural heritage sites) and the majestic Three Gorges along the Yangtze River are attracting numerous tourists both from home and abroad.

Introduction to CTBU:

CTBU is a multi-disciplinary university located on the south back of the Yangtze River. The University is the merge of two former colleges, Yuzhou University and Chongqing Institute of Commerce. The University features not only its new and well-designed buildings but also its emphasis on the majors such as economics, management, language and literature, law, science, and engineering. In addition, the University enjoys the right to grant master’s degrees in several fields. The university covers an area of 330 acres, with a floorage of over 600 thousand square meters. It consists of three campuses. Its main campus is located at the foot of South Mountain, which is compared to the lungs of the city, by the Yangtze River, the longest river in China, and close to the National Economic and Technological Development Zone of Chongqing. The campus has beautiful surroundings, easy traffic, and good information facilities.

Job description:

1.      Teach oral English, computer science, banking, commerce, accounting, etc.;

2.      14 teaching hours per week;

3.      Textbooks available (except oral English);

4.      Open lectures on your interest on irregular basis;

5.      Attend teaching discussions at irregular intervals;

6.      Receive feedback on teaching from students (usually at mid-term and end of the term);

7.      Chinese counterpart teachers ready to cooperate in teaching affairs;

8.      Multi-media rooms available;

9.      Copy room available;

10.  Foreign teachers’ office provided (equipped with desks, computers, printer, internet access, fridge, etc.);

1.      Monthly salary RMB3300-3800 according to your academic degree and teaching experiences. The amount can guarantee an easy life in Chongqing considering the low living expenses. Not including the extra hours. RMB4000 as air reimbursement at the end of one-year contract period. Monthly RMB50 as telephone subsidy.
